Walls are built to partition space, within
which one may feel psychologically secure
and protected; to many, such individual
spaces shaped by walls are symbols of security
and comfort. However, the wall presented
in this exhibit has an opening in it for
a purpose, and is positioned at the entrance
so that visitors may not detour. Thus, an unavoidable
interaction between the visitor
and the wall imperceptibly takes place in this
setting, just as sometimes someone comes
into your life and later departs, influencing
and moving you without your knowing.
Trampled by visitors, the spotless white bed
sheet becomes ruffled and tarnished while
the mattress serves as a passageway, its function
changed. Its yielding surface hampers
those who walk on it, while its normal cleanliness,
softness, coziness and privacy deserts
the visitor completely.
